DEBIT CARD FAQ’s

Can I use my card out of the country?

Yes. In order to avoid any inconvenience, When traveling outside of the U.S. please contact us at 651-462-7601 and we will flag your card to let the fraud system know you will be using the card in that geographical area.   First State Bank of Wyoming debit cards will NOT work with online transactions outside of the U.S..

How do I check my debit card balance?

Your debit card is tied directly to your checking account so you need to know if you have any automatic payments or other activity that may affect your balance.   For security reasons there is also a daily limit that may cap your purchases.  If you have issues with transactions authorizing and you have funds in your account, please contact us at 651-462-7601 and we may be able to raise your limit for those larger purchases.

At what age can you get a debit card?

First State bank of Wyoming will issue debit cards for minors if there is an adult on the account and they grant the access.

Can you overdraft a debit card?

Typically you must have the funds in your account before a debit card transaction will be approved. Occasionally networks go offline and the transactions are authorized based on a daily dollar limit so an overdraft may occur.  First State Bank of Wyoming does not charge overdraft fees to consumers on these transactions.  The cardholder is responsible for covering the overdraft as they authorized the transaction.

Does using a debit card build credit?

Purchases made with a debit card do not help you build credit. When you use a debit card, the funds are automatically taken directly from your checking account, so it is essentially a cash purchase. Banks do not report debit card accounts to Experian or the other credit reporting agencies.
